Rapper Lil Durk has secured a major legal victory after a federal jury found him not guilty on all charges in a high-profile murder-for-hire case connected to a 2022 shooting in Los Angeles. The verdict, delivered Friday, September 11, brings an end to the federal prosecution accusing the Chicago-born artist of involvement in an alleged plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo.
Durk, whose legal name is Durk Devontay Banks, had been facing serious federal allegations over the August 2022 incident near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. Prosecutors alleged that the shooting was organized as a retaliatory attack against Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman. Although Rondo survived the incident, his cousin, 24-year-old Saviay’a Robinson, known as Lul Pab, was killed.
The government’s case was built around the claim that the shooting was connected to longstanding tensions within the hip-hop community. Prosecutors linked the alleged retaliation to the 2020 killing of King Von, a close friend and collaborator of Durk. Authorities argued that Durk used individuals associated with his Only the Family, or OTF, collective as part of an effort to arrange the attack.
Throughout the proceedings, however, Durk’s defense team rejected the prosecution’s account. His attorneys questioned the reliability of witnesses who testified for the government and highlighted circumstances that they argued could have influenced those witnesses to cooperate with federal investigators.
