Aspyr has plans to re-release more Lord of the Rings games following its shadow drop of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North on modern platforms.
Aspyr, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Games, today announced the surprise digital launch of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam for $19.99.
Originally developed by Snowblind Studios and released in 2011, the critically acclaimed dark-fantasy action RPG has been modernized for contemporary hardware after being unavailable on digital platforms for seven years. European players on Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 hardware will be able to join the battle starting August 18, 2026.
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition features an untold story set parallel to the events of the Ring bearer’s journey. Players take up arms as Eradan the Ranger, Andriel the Elf, or Farin the Dwarf, fighting against Sauron’s forces in the northern theater of Middle-earth.
The Legacy Edition introduces a suite of definitive enhancements:
