Pegula Looks to Level First Set as Sabalenka Pushes in US Open Semifinal

Jessica Pegula is fighting to stay level with Aryna Sabalenka in a high-pressure US Open semifinal, with the American attempting to force the opening set into a tiebreak against the tournament’s top seed.

The meeting at Arthur Ashe Stadium represents another major chapter in the growing rivalry between the two players. Sabalenka is pursuing an extraordinary third consecutive US Open championship, while Pegula is chasing a breakthrough Grand Slam final and the biggest singles title of her career.

Their history at Flushing Meadows has made the contest even more intriguing. Sabalenka defeated Pegula in the 2024 US Open final before again overcoming her in the semifinals a year later. Those results have given Sabalenka the edge in their rivalry, although Pegula has recently produced several strong performances against the Belarusian.

The American has shown that she is capable of challenging Sabalenka’s power. Pegula defeated her in Berlin earlier in the summer, recovering from a tight second-set tiebreak before dominating the deciding set. She also earned a memorable victory over Sabalenka in the 2025 Wuhan semifinal, coming from behind after the Belarusian had been close to securing the match.

Pegula entered this year’s semifinal after another comeback victory. She defeated Emma Navarro 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals, overcoming a slow start to reach the last four at the US Open for the third consecutive year. The result also gave Pegula her 50th match victory of the 2026 season.

Sabalenka, meanwhile, had to survive a dramatic quarterfinal against Linda Noskova. The defending champion eventually prevailed 7-6(1), 3-6, 7-6(7), winning both tiebreaks in a contest that tested her ability to remain composed under pressure.

That experience could prove valuable as Sabalenka faces another demanding opponent. Her aggressive game is built around a powerful serve and heavy groundstrokes, allowing her to take control of rallies and put opponents under constant pressure. Pegula’s approach is different, with the American relying heavily on consistency, precise positioning and her ability to extend exchanges.

The battle for the first set could therefore become especially important. With Pegula serving and looking to force a tiebreak, the American needs to remain composed and avoid giving Sabalenka opportunities to dictate the next points. A first-set victory would give either player a significant boost in a match where momentum can change quickly.

For Sabalenka, taking the opening set would reinforce her position as the favorite and put her closer to another US Open final. She is attempting to join Serena Williams as the only woman in the Open Era to win three straight US Open singles titles.

Pegula’s motivation is just as significant. Despite reaching the latter stages of major tournaments several times, she has yet to claim a Grand Slam singles championship. A victory over Sabalenka would send her into her first major final and potentially create the defining moment of her career.

The matchup also highlights how competitive their recent encounters have become. Although Sabalenka has enjoyed the stronger overall record, Pegula’s victories in Berlin and Wuhan demonstrate that she has the game and confidence to challenge the defending champion.

As the first set approaches its decisive stage, the pressure is rising on both sides of the net. Pegula is looking for a chance to level the score and take the set to a tiebreak, while Sabalenka is attempting to capitalize on her opportunities and establish an early advantage.

With a place in the US Open final at stake, neither player can afford a lapse in concentration. The outcome of the opening set could set the tone for what promises to be another fiercely contested meeting between two of the leading players in women’s tennis.

Aaron Rodgers Revisits His Relationship With Danica Patrick in New Interview

Aaron Rodgers is offering a fresh perspective on his former relationship with Danica Patrick, revisiting the circumstances surrounding their breakup and challenging some of the claims Patrick has previously made about their time together.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback discussed the relationship during a recent episode of the “Not Just Football” podcast with teammate Cam Heyward. Rodgers and Patrick began dating in 2018, becoming one of the most recognizable sports couples at the time. Their relationship lasted about two years before they separated in 2020.

Rodgers described the relationship as becoming increasingly complicated, particularly following Patrick’s retirement from professional racing. He suggested that the transition was difficult for her emotionally and said the couple experienced a period in which their relationship was no longer a happy one.

According to Rodgers, he nevertheless tried to remain supportive and committed to the relationship. He said he wanted to be there for Patrick as she dealt with challenges following her racing career and viewed himself as someone who should continue supporting his partner during a difficult period.

The former couple eventually encountered problems involving both emotional closeness and intimacy. Rodgers said the lack of connection became one of the indications that their relationship was struggling. He also recalled Patrick raising the possibility of buying a home together, an idea he ultimately rejected.

As their difficulties continued, Rodgers said the two attempted counseling in an effort to work through their problems. However, those efforts were not enough to prevent the relationship from eventually coming to an end.

His latest comments contrast with Patrick’s own description of their breakup. During a 2025 appearance on “The Sage Steele Show,” Patrick spoke about the emotional impact of the relationship and described it as emotionally abusive. She also indicated that the split was extremely painful and left her dealing with significant emotional consequences.

Rodgers disputed that characterization in his latest interview. He questioned the suggestion that Patrick had been completely surprised by the breakup and presented a different version of how the relationship deteriorated. His comments suggest that, from his perspective, the separation followed a longer period of problems rather than happening without warning.

The quarterback also reflected on how his personal circumstances affected his relationships. Rodgers acknowledged that unresolved feelings connected to his now-wife, Brittani, played a role in his emotional availability during that period. He has previously discussed meeting Brittani in 2017, before his relationship with Patrick, and has spoken about wishing their connection had developed differently at the time.

Rodgers and Patrick have both moved forward with their lives since their 2020 split, but the details of their relationship continue to attract public interest. Their contrasting accounts have once again brought attention to a romance that ended several years ago.

Rodgers’ latest remarks make clear that he does not agree with Patrick’s public characterization of their relationship. While the former couple experienced the same relationship, their recollections of its final stages remain notably different.

The renewed discussion also comes as Rodgers prepares for another NFL season with the Steelers, keeping the veteran quarterback in the spotlight both on and off the field. For Patrick, meanwhile, her earlier comments continue to provide a different perspective on what she experienced during the relationship and its aftermath.

Apple Launches AirPods 5 With Next-Level Open-Ear Noise Cancellation

Apple has expanded its wireless audio lineup with the launch of AirPods 5, bringing upgraded sound, stronger Active Noise Cancellation and new intelligent features to its open-ear design. The new earbuds were announced on September 9 alongside Apple’s latest product releases and are aimed at users who want advanced audio features without the tighter fit of traditional in-ear models.

One of the most notable additions is improved Active Noise Cancellation. Apple says AirPods 5 with ANC can cut external noise by as much as 50 percent more than the previous AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. The technology combines updated acoustic components with computational audio to deliver stronger noise reduction while maintaining the open-ear form factor.

The design continues to allow users to hear more of their surroundings than they typically would with sealed in-ear earbuds. Apple has also enhanced Transparency mode, which is intended to make environmental sounds and nearby conversations sound more natural when the feature is activated.

Audio performance has received several upgrades as well. AirPods 5 feature a redesigned multiport acoustic architecture and next-generation Adaptive EQ. These technologies are designed to adjust the listening experience according to how the earbuds fit and provide a more detailed and balanced sound.

Personalized Spatial Audio is included, giving supported music, movies and other content a more immersive presentation. Adaptive Audio can also automatically adjust between noise cancellation and Transparency mode depending on the environment around the listener.

Apple is adding several hands-free capabilities to the new earbuds. Conversation Awareness can detect when someone begins speaking and lower the volume of whatever is playing. Users can then continue their conversation without needing to remove the AirPods.

The earbuds also work with newer Apple intelligence features. Compatible devices can provide access to Siri AI through hands-free interactions, while head movements can be used for certain responses. Live Translation is another addition, allowing supported conversations to be translated through the AirPods when paired with compatible hardware and software.

Apple is offering AirPods 5 in two versions. The standard model is priced at ₹14,900 in India, while the AirPods 5 configuration with a Wireless Charging Case costs ₹17,900. Active Noise Cancellation is available with both versions.

The Wireless Charging Case edition comes with additional charging options, including compatibility with USB-C, Apple Watch chargers and Qi-certified charging systems. Apple has also introduced swipe-based volume controls on the stems, allowing users to raise or lower the volume directly from the earbuds.

Battery life remains another important feature. With Active Noise Cancellation enabled, AirPods 5 can provide up to five hours of listening from the earbuds on a single charge. When used with the charging case, total listening time can reach up to 22 hours with ANC activated.

Apple has also improved the earbuds’ resistance to everyday exposure. The AirPods 5 carry an IP57 rating, offering protection against dust, sweat and water and making them more suitable for workouts and outdoor activities.

Pre-orders for the new AirPods 5 are underway, with availability expected to begin on September 18. The launch gives Apple customers another choice between traditional in-ear models and the company’s open-ear approach.

By combining an open-ear design with stronger noise cancellation, improved acoustics, intelligent listening features and enhanced durability, Apple is positioning AirPods 5 as a significant upgrade for users seeking both environmental awareness and a more controlled listening experience.

Alonso Takes Accountability as Chelsea’s Substitute Stars Step Up

Chelsea produced a remarkable turnaround against Leeds United, recovering from a two-goal deficit to secure a thrilling 6-3 victory in the Carabao Cup. The dramatic comeback was driven largely by the impact of Chelsea’s substitutes, while head coach Xabi Alonso accepted responsibility for the difficult opening period.

Alonso had made major changes to his starting lineup for the match, making nine alterations as Chelsea balanced squad rotation with their busy schedule. Among those given an opportunity was 16-year-old Reggie Watson, who made his senior debut.

The decision initially appeared to backfire. Leeds took advantage of Chelsea’s unsettled lineup and established a 2-0 advantage, with Tarik Muharemovic and Brenden Aaronson finding the net. Chelsea struggled to establish control, while their attacking play lacked the intensity and rhythm expected at Stamford Bridge.

Rather than blame his players, Alonso admitted that he had to take responsibility for the situation. The Chelsea manager acknowledged that his tactical decisions and extensive changes had contributed to the team’s poor first-half performance.

The Spaniard responded at the interval by making four substitutions. Reece James, Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Pedro Neto were introduced, replacing Malo Gusto, Watson, Estevao and Jamie Gittens.

The changes immediately altered the momentum of the contest. Chelsea returned for the second half with greater energy and aggression, putting Leeds under sustained pressure and creating opportunities at a much faster pace.

Palmer played a major role in the revival. The England international helped Chelsea get back into the contest before eventually scoring twice, including a penalty, as the hosts completed their comeback.

Rogers also became an important figure after entering the match. His movement and creativity helped Chelsea stretch the Leeds defense, while Neto provided additional attacking threat from the moment he was introduced.

Chelsea eventually turned the match completely around. Further goals from Neto, Danny Welbeck and Valentin Barco added to Palmer’s contribution, leaving Leeds struggling to cope with the intensity of the home side.

Leeds did manage to score again through Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but Chelsea remained in control and finished the night with a 6-3 victory.

The result highlighted the depth available to Alonso, particularly the influence of players who began the game on the bench. What looked like a potentially damaging decision at halftime became one of the defining moments of the match.

For Alonso, however, the victory was not simply about celebrating his substitutes. He emphasized that the first-half problems were his responsibility and that his players should not carry the blame for the difficult start.

His decision to make wholesale changes had been a calculated attempt to manage the squad, but the early performance demonstrated the risks involved in rotating so heavily. The response after halftime showed how quickly Chelsea could change the direction of a game when their more experienced players were introduced.

The comeback also provided a reminder of the attacking options available to Chelsea. Palmer, Rogers, Neto and Welbeck helped transform the match, turning a two-goal deficit into a three-goal winning margin.

Chelsea will take confidence from the character shown after going behind, while Alonso will also have valuable lessons from the opening 45 minutes. The manager’s willingness to accept responsibility, combined with the substitutes’ immediate impact, ultimately helped Chelsea avoid a major upset.

After trailing 2-0, Chelsea’s 6-3 triumph became a memorable comeback and demonstrated just how influential a strong bench can be in a demanding season.
