Astronomers Pick Up First Radio Signal From a Distant Exoplanet

Astronomers have detected radio emissions that appear to originate directly from a planet beyond our Solar System, providing researchers with a new way to investigate the magnetic properties of distant worlds.

The observations were made with the MeerKAT radio telescope array in South Africa and focused on Beta Pictoris b, a large gas-giant exoplanet located approximately 63 to 64 light-years from Earth. Researchers identified repeating radio bursts and persistent emissions that were associated with the planet rather than its parent star.

The observation is notable because previous searches for radio emissions from exoplanetary systems had faced difficulties determining whether detected signals came from the planet or from the star it orbits. In this case, astronomers used the position and movement of the radio source to establish a stronger connection with Beta Pictoris b.

Scientists believe the emissions are associated with auroral activity generated by the planet’s magnetic environment. On Earth, auroras occur when charged particles interact with the planet’s magnetic field and atmosphere, producing the familiar displays known as the Northern and Southern Lights.

A similar process can occur on other planets. According to researchers, energetic electrons moving through a magnetic field can generate concentrated radio waves through a mechanism called electron cyclotron maser instability.

The MeerKAT observations covered frequencies from roughly 0.85 to 3.5 gigahertz. The characteristics of the detected emissions were consistent with radio waves generated through magnetic interactions rather than a technological transmission.

The findings also provide an opportunity to estimate the strength of Beta Pictoris b’s magnetic field. Based on the highest-frequency radio emission observed, researchers estimate that the planet’s magnetic field is at least around 1,250 gauss.

That would represent a considerably stronger magnetic field than Earth’s and would also exceed the magnetic field strength associated with Jupiter. Measurements of planetary magnetic fields can give scientists information about the internal structure of planets and how they interact with the surrounding environment.

Beta Pictoris b itself is a young and massive gas giant and is not regarded as an Earth-like habitable planet. It does not have a solid surface comparable to Earth. Nevertheless, its radio emissions could help researchers develop techniques that might eventually be applied to smaller exoplanets.

Magnetic fields are particularly interesting to astronomers because they can influence how a planet responds to radiation and charged particles released by its host star. A strong magnetic field can also affect the behavior and long-term evolution of a planetary atmosphere.

The discovery does not constitute evidence of an alien civilization or an artificial communication signal. Researchers say the observed radio emissions have a natural explanation associated with auroral processes and the planet’s magnetic field.

Instead, the significance of the finding lies in the possibility of using radio observations as another method for studying planets located far beyond the Solar System.

Most exoplanets are investigated through techniques such as measuring changes in a star’s brightness or detecting the small gravitational movement caused by an orbiting planet. Radio astronomy could add another layer of information by revealing magnetic activity that cannot necessarily be measured through those conventional methods.

Future observations could help astronomers determine whether similar radio emissions are present around other exoplanets. Researchers may particularly be interested in applying the technique to planets with different sizes, compositions and distances from their host stars.

The study is also expected to undergo further scientific examination and follow-up observations. Independent measurements will be important for confirming the findings and refining estimates of Beta Pictoris b’s magnetic field.

If the observations are confirmed, the work could represent an important step for radio astronomy and exoplanet research. Rather than simply identifying distant planets, astronomers may increasingly be able to investigate their magnetic environments and learn more about how these worlds behave.

The detection therefore offers a new perspective on a planet located dozens of light-years away, showing how radio observations can reveal previously inaccessible details about worlds beyond our Solar System.

Elon Musk Reportedly Parts Ways With Longtime Associate in Sudden Split

Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis have reportedly ended their personal relationship after several years together, with Zilis publicly discussing the separation and describing the change as unexpected.

Zilis, a longtime technology executive who works at Musk’s Neuralink, disclosed the breakup in a post on X on October 2. She indicated that the relationship had shifted from being together to separating within a short period and characterized the development as happening without warning.

The announcement brought renewed attention to the relationship between Musk and Zilis, whose professional and personal connections have developed over several years. Musk has not publicly provided a detailed account of the reported split, and the circumstances surrounding the decision have not been fully explained.

Zilis and Musk are also parents to four children. Their first two children together were born in 2021, with their relationship becoming publicly known the following year through court documents. They later welcomed two additional children.

Although the pair have generally kept much of their family life away from public attention, their connection has occasionally surfaced through public appearances and social-media activity. Zilis’ latest comments have offered a rare glimpse into the personal side of their relationship.

In her statement, Zilis expressed sadness about the end of the relationship while also emphasizing the importance of the family they had created. She indicated that she remained grateful for their children and hoped the two could maintain a constructive relationship as co-parents.

Their professional connection is another significant part of the story. Zilis has worked with Musk-related technology ventures for years and currently holds an executive position at Neuralink, the brain-computer-interface company founded by Musk. Her career has also included positions associated with other major technology companies and artificial-intelligence organizations.

Before joining Neuralink, Zilis developed a reputation within the technology industry through work involving artificial intelligence and venture investment. Her professional history has placed her in Musk’s wider technology network for an extended period.

The reported breakup comes at a time when Zilis has continued to attract attention because of her professional involvement in Musk’s business world. She recently appeared in connection with legal proceedings involving Musk and OpenAI, providing testimony during the dispute surrounding the artificial-intelligence company.

Social media also played a role in the latest development. Reports indicate that Musk unfollowed Zilis on X before she publicly addressed the end of their relationship. Zilis subsequently used the platform to explain that the pair had separated.

However, several aspects of the situation remain unclear. Neither Musk nor his representatives has publicly offered a detailed explanation for what prompted the reported split. As a result, claims about the circumstances behind the separation remain based largely on Zilis’ public comments and media reports.

For the former couple, the immediate focus appears to be maintaining their role as parents to their four children. Zilis has indicated that she hopes the relationship can continue in a positive direction despite the end of their partnership.

The development also highlights the unusual overlap between their personal and professional lives. Zilis remains involved in the technology sector and continues to work at Neuralink, meaning her professional connection to Musk’s business network remains separate from the reported change in their personal relationship.

While further details may emerge, the public information currently provides only a limited account of what led to the separation. Musk has not publicly outlined his perspective, leaving the precise circumstances surrounding the reported breakup unresolved.

For now, Musk and Zilis appear to be moving into a different phase of their relationship, with their personal partnership reportedly over while their responsibilities as co-parents continue.

US Arrests California Resident Over Alleged $300 Million Server Shipments to China

A California resident has been arrested after U.S. prosecutors accused him of helping arrange the shipment of more than $300 million worth of restricted computer servers to China without the necessary export authorization.

Federal authorities identified the defendant as Greg Lui, 38, of San Gabriel. He was arrested on October 1 after prosecutors unsealed an indictment in California. Lui is accused of using his technology company, Earthmade Computer Inc., to acquire advanced computer servers containing U.S.-made graphics processing units, or GPUs, and then arrange for the equipment to reach China.

The case involves powerful computing hardware, including Nvidia A100 and H100 GPUs. Such processors are used in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, and certain exports of advanced computing equipment to China are subject to U.S. government restrictions.

According to the indictment, the alleged operation involved sending the equipment first to other countries before it was ultimately transferred to China. Prosecutors say Malaysia and Singapore were among the destinations used in the shipments.

Investigators allege that export documents identified the third countries as the authorized destinations rather than China. After the equipment arrived there, prosecutors claim it was subsequently moved onward to Chinese buyers.

The indictment describes an example involving 27 servers containing controlled GPUs. Prosecutors allege that Lui placed an order valued at approximately $7.6 million in January 2024. The servers were reportedly shipped from the Los Angeles area to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Authorities further allege that a co-conspirator later acknowledged to a Malaysian official that the equipment had been transferred to a buyer in China. Prosecutors say the example illustrates how the alleged shipments were routed through intermediary locations before reaching their final destination.

Financial transactions also form part of the government’s allegations. According to prosecutors, Earthmade received more than $176 million from two Malaysia-based shipping companies between January and October 2024. The indictment claims that the transactions were connected to the wider server-export operation, which prosecutors estimate involved nearly $300 million in restricted equipment.

The allegations come as the United States continues enforcing controls on advanced computing technologies destined for China. U.S. authorities have placed restrictions on certain high-performance chips and computing systems because of concerns about their potential applications in advanced artificial intelligence and other strategically sensitive areas.

Federal agencies involved in the investigation include the Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service and the FBI. Prosecutors are also pursuing the forfeiture of property that they allege is connected to the case.

Lui faces three federal charges. They include conspiracy to violate the Export Control Reform Act and related regulations, outbound smuggling and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

The potential penalties are substantial. According to the Justice Department, the export-control conspiracy carries a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years, while the smuggling charge carries a maximum of 10 years. The money-laundering conspiracy also carries a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years.

The case nevertheless remains at the allegation stage. Federal prosecutors have stressed that an indictment does not establish guilt, and Lui is presumed innocent unless the government proves the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

The investigation highlights the difficulties involved in monitoring international technology supply chains, particularly when restricted equipment can potentially be routed through multiple countries before reaching its final destination. The case is also part of a broader U.S. effort to enforce export controls involving advanced computing hardware and prevent unauthorized transfers of sensitive technology.

As the legal proceedings continue, the allegations against Lui will be tested in federal court, where prosecutors will be required to establish the charges through evidence.

Taylor Swift Switches Up Her Signature Style With Shorter Curly Hair

Taylor Swift has given fans another glimpse of a refreshed personal style, unveiling shorter blonde hair styled in loose curls while celebrating a new achievement in her music career.

The singer revealed the updated hairstyle in a social media post on October 2. Her hair now falls around shoulder length, with soft curls creating a fuller and more relaxed appearance. Swift also kept her familiar bangs, combining one of her best-known style features with a look reminiscent of her earlier years in the spotlight.

The hairstyle change arrived as Swift marked a notable accomplishment on the UK music charts. Her track “Patient Zero” and the expanded edition of The Life of a Showgirl, The Encore, reached No. 1 on the UK singles and albums charts respectively. The simultaneous success marked Swift’s fifth UK chart double.

While the achievement itself was a significant moment, her appearance quickly became another talking point among fans. The shorter cut represents a noticeable change from the longer hairstyles she has worn during different stages of her career. Her hair has frequently shifted between straight styles, waves and curls, depending on the era and occasion.

The return to curls has particular significance for longtime Swift followers. During the early part of her career, the singer became strongly associated with blonde curls and ringlets. The style was especially prominent around the periods when albums such as Fearless and Speak Now helped establish her as one of pop and country music’s biggest young stars.

As her career developed, Swift gradually experimented with different hairstyles and beauty looks. Straightened hair, loose waves and polished updos became regular parts of her public appearances. Her latest transformation brings back the curls while giving them a shorter, modern shape.

The new cut follows another hairstyle change earlier this year. Swift was photographed in London in August with her hair shortened to approximately shoulder length. She was subsequently seen wearing the style at a wedding in the UK attended by several well-known figures.

Her latest appearance appears to take that haircut a little further, with the shorter length combined with defined but relaxed curls. The result maintains recognizable elements of Swift’s appearance while giving her overall look a different finish.

The timing of the style change also comes during a busy period for the singer. Swift has continued to attract attention not only for her music but also for her appearances, fashion choices and career milestones. She recently received major recognition at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year and the inaugural Artist Director Honor.

Swift’s hairstyles have often become closely linked with different stages of her career. Changes in length, texture and colour have accompanied numerous musical eras, giving fans another visual element through which to follow her evolving image.

Her latest look similarly combines nostalgia with a more contemporary appearance. The return of curls recalls the hairstyle associated with her early career, while the shorter length gives the familiar style a fresh update.

With a new chart achievement coinciding with her latest beauty transformation, Swift has once again attracted attention for both her music and her evolving personal style. The shorter curls and signature bangs offer a recognizable yet updated version of an aesthetic that longtime fans will remember.

Penn State Set to Face Northwestern Without 12 Players

Penn State will take on Northwestern with a significantly depleted roster after 12 players were ruled unavailable for the Big Ten matchup. The extensive list affects several areas of the team, including the offense, defensive front, secondary and special teams.

The availability report confirms that wide receiver Koby Howard will miss his second straight game. Howard has been sidelined since sustaining an injury during Penn State’s game against Buffalo, leaving the Nittany Lions with one fewer option at wide receiver.

Penn State will also be missing tight end Cooper Alexander and offensive lineman Will Tompkins. Their absences add to the personnel challenges facing the team as it prepares for another conference contest.

The defensive unit has several notable absences of its own. Defensive end Lavar Arrington II remains sidelined following knee surgery and is expected to be unavailable for another one to three weeks. His absence leaves Penn State with fewer choices along the defensive line.

The secondary is also dealing with multiple unavailable players. Cornerbacks Joshua Johnson, Tyler Armstead and Christian Askew have all been ruled out for the Northwestern game. With those players unable to take the field, Penn State will have to rely on its remaining defensive backs to handle the Wildcats’ passing attack.

Additional defensive absences include defensive ends Max Granville, Mason Robinson and Dayshaun Burnett, along with linebacker Cam Smith. The number of players missing from the defensive unit could lead to changes in rotations and increased playing opportunities for other members of the roster.

Special teams will be affected as well. Kicker Christiano Rosa has been ruled out, meaning Penn State will have to make alternative arrangements in the kicking game.

One player whose status had not been completely settled before kickoff was cornerback Daryus Dixson. He was listed as a game-time decision after dealing with an injury. Dixson had started Penn State’s first four games and had participated in practice during the week, leaving his availability as one of the final personnel questions surrounding the matchup.

The Wildcats and Nittany Lions enter the meeting with conference ambitions of their own. Penn State is 3-1 after opening its Big Ten schedule with a loss to Wisconsin, while Northwestern entered the contest at 2-1 following a close defeat against Indiana.

The game also marks Penn State’s first visit to Northwestern’s newly rebuilt Ryan Field, adding another element to the matchup.

For Penn State, managing the extensive list of absences will be a central part of the game-day challenge. The coaching staff will need to make adjustments to personnel groupings and rotations while giving additional responsibilities to healthy players.

The situation is particularly important on defense, where several players across the defensive line, linebacker corps and secondary are unavailable. Offensively, the team will likewise have to compensate for missing contributors at wide receiver, tight end and along the offensive line.

With 12 players already ruled out and Dixson’s status uncertain until game time, Penn State enters the Northwestern matchup with a number of roster-related questions. How effectively the Nittany Lions adjust to the absences will become one of the key storylines as the conference clash gets underway.

Putin Escalates Warning to West Over Potential Threats to Kaliningrad

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stepped up his warnings to Western nations over the security of Kaliningrad, saying Moscow would respond with its full range of available weapons if Russian territory were directly attacked.

Putin made the remarks on October 1 while speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club in Moscow, where he addressed growing tensions between Russia and Western countries. He warned that any direct assault on Kaliningrad could trigger a serious military response and indicated that Russia’s broader arsenal could be brought into consideration.

The Russian president’s comments included references to nuclear weapons, adding to concerns over the increasingly forceful language being used by Moscow in its exchanges with Western governments. Putin argued that Russia had the means to defend its territory and warned against actions that could push the confrontation into a more dangerous phase.

Kaliningrad has become a particularly sensitive point in relations between Russia and NATO. The Russian territory is an exclave on the Baltic Sea, located between NATO members Poland and Lithuania. Its strategic position gives it considerable importance for Russia’s military presence in the Baltic region.

Moscow has repeatedly objected to what it describes as increasing military pressure around the territory. Russia recently sent a diplomatic note to NATO concerning the situation, according to the alliance, while Russian officials have also warned against any attempt to isolate or blockade Kaliningrad.

NATO has rejected suggestions that it is preparing an operation against the Russian territory. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has described the alliance as defensive and criticised Moscow’s nuclear rhetoric. At the same time, NATO members continue to support Ukraine as Russia’s war against the country continues.

Putin, for his part, said Russia does not seek a military confrontation with European countries. He maintained that Moscow’s objective is peaceful coexistence but argued that Russia would respond if its territory came under direct attack.

The dispute over Kaliningrad comes against the backdrop of the wider war in Ukraine, which has sharply worsened relations between Russia and Western governments. Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, NATO countries have expanded defence measures along the alliance’s eastern flank while providing military and financial support to Kyiv.

The Baltic region has consequently become a major focus of European security concerns. Poland and Lithuania, which are both NATO members and border Kaliningrad, have strengthened their attention to regional defence as tensions with Moscow have continued.

Putin also warned that the confrontation between Russia and the West was reaching a particularly dangerous stage. He argued that continued escalation could eventually produce circumstances that would be difficult for governments to control, especially given the military capabilities of Russia and NATO members.

His comments came alongside remarks about the impact of the Ukraine conflict on Russia’s economy. Putin acknowledged that Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil-refining facilities had created economic difficulties, although he said Moscow was taking measures in response.

Despite his warnings, Putin indicated that Russia was not preparing to immediately attack European weapons-producing facilities involved in supplying Ukraine. The statement appeared to underline Moscow’s distinction between issuing warnings and announcing an immediate military operation.

The latest remarks nevertheless place Kaliningrad back at the centre of concerns over a possible confrontation between Russia and NATO. With the war in Ukraine continuing and military activity increasing across eastern Europe, statements from Moscow and NATO remain closely watched for signs of further escalation.

For now, both sides continue to publicly emphasize their respective security positions while warning that direct confrontation could carry serious consequences.

£112 Advent Calendar Launched by Meghan Ahead of Festive Season

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has expanded her lifestyle brand As Ever with a new festive product: a limited-edition advent calendar priced at $148, or approximately £112.

The calendar was developed in partnership with Los Angeles chocolatier Compartés and contains 24 chocolates designed for the traditional Christmas countdown. The product combines the brand’s holiday theme with imagery inspired by Meghan and Prince Harry’s former home in Montecito, California.

Each compartment contains a numbered chocolate, allowing customers to open one treat each day in the run-up to Christmas. The numbers are finished in edible gold and are presented in a style inspired by Meghan’s own handwriting.

The chocolates feature flavours connected to California and elements of As Ever’s existing product range. Among the varieties are strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and orange marmalade-inspired flavours. The collection also includes a chocolate featuring Meghan’s signature flower sprinkles and a dark chocolate ganache truffle produced by Compartés.

The packaging is designed to have a keepsake quality, with illustrations referencing the garden and surroundings of the Montecito property where Meghan and Harry previously lived.

Inside the box, a seasonal message describes the calendar as a celebration of the Christmas period and encourages consumers to enjoy a different chocolate throughout the countdown.

Meghan has also shared behind-the-scenes material connected with the product’s development. In footage posted online, she appeared with Compartés chief executive Jonathan Grahm while discussing preparations for the festive collection.

The video included colourful sketches depicting the California home that inspired the packaging. Meghan’s Labrador, Pula, also featured in the footage, appearing with a toy resembling an As Ever strawberry-jam jar.

The launch continues Meghan’s efforts to build As Ever around food, lifestyle and products influenced by her personal tastes and California experience. Previous offerings from the brand have included jams, flower sprinkles and other food-related products.

The new advent calendar also maintains a connection with the period Meghan and Harry spent in California after stepping back from their senior royal roles in 2020. The couple established their life in Montecito with their children during those years, making the property an important part of the imagery used for the new product.

Reports have said the calendar was initially offered for pre-order through the As Ever website, with deliveries expected to begin in November. However, availability has been limited geographically, with reports indicating that the product is currently intended for the US market rather than UK delivery.

The timing of the launch places the product directly in the run-up to the Christmas shopping season. At £112, the calendar sits at the premium end of the advent-calendar market, with its price reflecting not only the chocolates but also the limited-edition design and celebrity branding attached to the release.

The collaboration with Compartés gives the product an additional connection to Los Angeles, where the chocolatier is based. That partnership fits with the California theme that runs throughout the design and presentation.

For As Ever, the advent calendar represents another step in the development of the lifestyle label. The brand continues to combine food products with visual elements associated with Meghan’s California years.

As the festive season approaches, the £112 release offers consumers a 24-day chocolate countdown wrapped in a design that draws heavily on Meghan’s former California surroundings. The launch also demonstrates how As Ever continues to build its identity around seasonal products, food and lifestyle offerings.

French Student Protests Turn Violent as Government Convenes Crisis Talks

France’s government has called an emergency meeting after demonstrations involving high school students intensified across the country, with some protests developing into clashes, fires and property damage.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu brought senior ministers together to discuss the growing unrest as authorities attempted to restore calm around schools and address concerns raised by students. The demonstrations have increasingly become a challenge for the government, with police deployed to several areas where school blockades and confrontations have been reported.

Students initially took to the streets over concerns about conditions within the education system. Among the issues raised were teacher shortages, crowded classrooms and aging or poorly maintained school facilities. Complaints about the pressure faced by students have also featured in the demonstrations.

However, the protests have taken a more serious turn in some locations. Authorities have reported incidents involving fires, vandalism and confrontations with police. Hundreds of people have been arrested, with many of those detained being teenagers, while students and school employees have also been among those reported injured.

Some of the most serious incidents occurred in cities including Marseille, Nantes and Le Havre. Reports included fires at schools, damage involving emergency-service vehicles and confrontations between protesters and police.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has instructed police to remove blockades that stop students from accessing schools. Authorities have also been told to respond to acts of violence and destruction.

Officials have raised concerns that some individuals may be moving between schools and encouraging young people to participate in violent activity. The government has therefore sought to distinguish between students protesting over education issues and those involved in criminal acts.

The political debate surrounding the demonstrations has added another layer to the crisis. A person close to the prime minister said intelligence services had linked the organization of the protests to France Unbowed, or LFI, and associated groups. LFI has rejected that characterization, with lawmaker Louis Boyard saying the party supports peaceful demonstrations and arguing that the government’s response has contributed to tensions.

The unrest comes as France’s government faces wider pressure over its proposed 2027 budget. Officials have presented plans aimed at reducing the country’s deficit, including spending restraints at a time when concerns over public services remain prominent.

Education has consequently become part of a broader national discussion about government spending and the condition of public institutions. For protesters, however, the immediate focus remains on what they describe as problems inside schools.

Education Minister Édouard Geffray has acknowledged the difficulties facing the education system while making clear that violence cannot be allowed to disrupt students’ access to classes. He has suggested that schools could move lessons online temporarily if demonstrations make it impossible to operate safely.

The education minister has also planned discussions involving teachers’ unions, parents and student representatives. The aim is to examine the concerns behind the protests while preventing further disruption to schools.

Lecornu’s decision to bring ministers together and ask them to focus on the situation highlights the government’s effort to contain the unrest. Authorities face the twin challenge of maintaining public order and responding to longstanding complaints about education resources.

The demonstrations are also unfolding against a backdrop of broader political tensions in France. Public-sector workers have staged separate protests over the government’s budget plans, while the country moves toward next year’s presidential election.

For now, officials are concentrating on preventing further violence and keeping schools operating. Whether the government’s response can ease the immediate tensions while addressing the concerns raised by students and educators remains a central issue as the protests continue.

Dick Vitale Praises Caitlin Clark After Historic WNBA Playoff Performance

Caitlin Clark’s performance on the WNBA playoff stage has once again attracted attention, with longtime basketball broadcaster Dick Vitale offering high praise for the Indiana Fever guard.

Vitale, whose career in basketball broadcasting spans decades, reacted to Clark’s postseason showing by emphasizing the variety of skills she brings to the offensive end of the floor. He referred to Clark as the WNBA’s “best all-around offensive” point guard, highlighting her ability to contribute in several areas rather than relying solely on scoring.

Clark’s latest playoff outing gave Indiana another opportunity to benefit from her scoring and playmaking. Her role with the Fever goes beyond putting points on the board, as she is also heavily involved in initiating the offense, finding teammates and creating opportunities when defenses tighten.

That versatility has become a defining feature of Clark’s professional game. Her long-range shooting can force defenders to extend beyond the perimeter, while her passing ability gives her teammates additional opportunities to score. She can also use her ball-handling skills to create space and generate offensive chances for herself.

Those qualities have made Clark one of the most closely watched players in the WNBA since she entered the league. Indiana selected her with the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft after a highly decorated college career, and her arrival generated significant interest around the Fever and women’s basketball more broadly.

Her influence has continued into the postseason, where the intensity and defensive pressure are often elevated. Against playoff opponents, teams have fewer opportunities for mistakes, placing greater importance on efficient decision-making and the ability to create offense.

Clark’s responsibilities with Indiana make her particularly important in those situations. As one of the team’s primary ball-handlers, she is regularly involved in setting up possessions and determining how the offense develops. Her ability to score herself also prevents opposing defenses from focusing exclusively on her passing.

Vitale’s assessment centered on that combination of offensive tools. Rather than pointing to a single statistical category, his comments recognized Clark’s ability to affect different aspects of the game from the point guard position.

For the Fever, those skills remain an important part of their postseason ambitions. Indiana can use Clark’s shooting to open space on the court while also relying on her vision to connect with teammates. Her ability to shift between scorer and facilitator gives the team different ways to attack opposing defenses.

The attention surrounding Clark has also extended beyond individual games. Her professional career has been closely followed by fans and media, with her performances frequently becoming part of larger discussions about the WNBA and the growing visibility of women’s basketball.

Vitale’s latest comments contribute to that conversation by focusing on Clark’s offensive versatility. His description of her as the league’s best all-around offensive point guard reflects his own assessment of her skill set and the way she influences Indiana’s attack.

For Clark, however, the focus remains on competing in the postseason and continuing to develop at the professional level. Every playoff game provides another test against experienced WNBA competition and another opportunity to demonstrate how her game translates to the highest level.

Her latest performance has provided another example of the offensive qualities that have defined her rise from college basketball to the WNBA.

As Indiana continues its playoff journey, Clark’s scoring, passing and ability to control the offense will remain central to the team’s approach. Vitale’s praise adds another prominent voice to the discussion surrounding one of the league’s most closely followed young players.

Phillies vs. Braves Set for Winner-Take-All Wild Card Game 3

The Atlanta Braves secured their place in the National League Division Series after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in a decisive Wild Card Game 3 on Thursday night.

The series finale at Truist Park followed a dramatic opening two games. Atlanta took Game 1 by a 5-3 score, but Philadelphia answered the following night with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings. With the series tied at one game apiece, the third meeting became a winner-take-all contest, with the victorious team moving on to the next stage of the postseason.

Atlanta quickly seized control of the deciding game. Michael Harris II provided an early spark with a three-run home run in the first inning, giving the Braves an immediate advantage and putting pressure on Philadelphia from the outset.

The Braves continued to control the game as their pitching limited the Phillies’ offense. Ray Kerr opened the contest for Atlanta and delivered 3⅓ scoreless innings, helping establish an early foundation for the Braves’ bullpen.

Philadelphia had entered the final game with considerable momentum following its Game 2 comeback. The Phillies rallied late in that contest, with Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper hitting consecutive home runs in the eighth inning before Alec Bohm delivered the go-ahead homer in the 10th. Andrew Painter then closed out the victory to keep Philadelphia’s postseason hopes alive.

The Phillies were scheduled to rely on Aaron Nola to begin Game 3. Nola had faced Atlanta three times during the regular season, recording a 4.50 ERA across those appearances. Philadelphia also had several additional pitching options available as the game progressed.

Atlanta’s pitching strategy centered on Kerr serving as the opener, with Grant Holmes expected to handle a larger share of the innings. Kerr had been particularly effective since making his season debut on Aug. 17, posting a 1.47 ERA over 18⅓ innings during that stretch.

Both teams also entered the deciding game with important offensive contributors. For Philadelphia, Schwarber, Harper and Bohm were among the hitters who had produced key moments during the first two games. J.T. Realmuto had also collected two hits and driven in two runs during the opening contests.

Atlanta had received strong production from Michael Harris II and Mauricio Dubón. Harris had recorded four hits in his first eight at-bats of the series, while Dubón entered Game 3 with three hits in nine at-bats.

Ronald Acuña Jr., meanwhile, was still searching for his first hit of the series after beginning the postseason matchup 0-for-6.

The Braves’ victory brought an end to Philadelphia’s Wild Card run and sent Atlanta into the NL Division Series. The Braves will now turn their attention to the next round of the postseason, while the Phillies’ season comes to a close after a tightly contested three-game series.

The deciding victory capped a series that featured late-inning drama, power hitting and several momentum swings before Atlanta ultimately pulled away in the final contest.
