Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have detained 12 men as part of an investigation into an alleged operation that stole and resold thousands of cats. Police say approximately 2,700 animals may have been taken from residential neighborhoods and subsequently supplied to the meat trade.

The case came to light after authorities raided a suspected collection site on July 8. Officers reportedly discovered around 50 live cats at the location, along with traps and other equipment believed to have been used to capture animals. Investigators also found weighing scales and machines reportedly used to remove fur.

According to Vietnamese police and state media reports, the suspected operation allegedly relied on teams working late at night and during the early hours of the morning. Groups reportedly traveled through residential areas on motorcycles, looking for cats that could be captured using traps.

Investigators said the teams generally operated between approximately 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Individual groups were allegedly able to collect several cats during a single night, with estimates suggesting that between four and 10 animals could be captured during one outing.

Police have identified 39-year-old Luu Thanh Binh as the alleged leader of the operation. Investigators claim he purchased cats obtained by members of the network, stored them at a facility in the northern part of Ho Chi Minh City and later arranged for the animals to be resold.

Authorities said the suspects acknowledged involvement in the theft and trafficking of about 2,700 cats. However, the investigation is continuing, and officials have not publicly established every detail surrounding the alleged operation. The claims remain allegations and will need to be addressed through the legal process.

The recovery of the animals has also led to efforts to reunite stolen pets with their owners. Police reportedly returned 13 cats to people who were able to demonstrate that the animals belonged to them. Other rescued cats were transferred to an animal welfare organization while authorities worked to determine their ownership.

The investigation has attracted attention partly because of the complex legal position surrounding the consumption of cat meat in Vietnam. Although the consumption of cat and dog meat is not generally prohibited, authorities require vendors to document the origin of animals in the meat trade. At the same time, cats and dogs are recognized as private property, meaning taking an animal without its owner’s permission can constitute theft.

The latest case also comes amid other investigations involving alleged cat-trafficking networks in Ho Chi Minh City. Earlier in 2026, authorities reported another operation in which more than 400 cats were rescued. Some of those animals were subsequently returned to their owners.

The incidents have highlighted concerns among pet owners about the disappearance of cats from residential areas and the possibility that organized groups may target household animals for financial gain.

For investigators, attention will now turn to establishing the precise responsibilities of each of the 12 suspects and determining whether others may have participated in the alleged network. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke of York, has taken legal action against Thames Valley Police over search warrants connected to an investigation into alleged misconduct linked to his past relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

The former prince has been granted permission to challenge the warrants through a judicial review. His legal team is questioning the circumstances in which police obtained the warrants and used them to search properties associated with him before his arrest earlier this year.

A private hearing at the High Court is scheduled for October 8, with Mr Justice Hilliard expected to consider issues surrounding the proceedings. The case could involve arguments over documents connected to the warrants and whether some of the material should remain restricted.

Police previously obtained warrants that allowed officers to search properties linked to Mountbatten-Windsor, including his residence on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk and his former home at Royal Lodge in Windsor. The searches formed part of the wider investigation that preceded his arrest.

Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on February 19, his 66th birthday, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was questioned under caution for several hours before being released under investigation. No charges have been brought against him, and the police inquiry remains ongoing.

The investigation relates to allegations concerning his time as a UK trade envoy between 2001 and 2011. Investigators are examining claims that he may have passed sensitive government information to Epstein, the American financier and convicted sex offender who died in 2019.

Mountbatten-Windsor has denied wrongdoing. His legal challenge, however, is focused on the actions taken by police rather than directly determining the truth of the allegations being investigated.

A judicial review examines whether a public body has acted lawfully and followed the appropriate legal process. Consequently, the court proceedings over the search warrants are separate from any eventual decision about whether criminal charges should be brought.

Production of “The Batman Part II” has been temporarily put on hold after filmmaker Matt Reeves stepped away from the project to attend to a family matter.

Warner Bros. and DC Studios confirmed the production pause but have not revealed details about Reeves’ personal situation. The studios said Reeves has their full support and indicated that the interruption is temporary. No specific date has been announced for his return to the set.

The development comes while the long-awaited sequel is moving through its production phase. Reeves is once again serving as the director and writer of the Batman sequel after leading the 2022 film “The Batman.” That movie introduced Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne and presented a darker, separate interpretation of the iconic DC Comics character.

Pattinson is set to reprise the role of Batman for the follow-up. Several other actors from the first film are also expected to return, including Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot, commonly known as the Penguin, and Jeffrey Wright as Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon.

The sequel is also expanding its ensemble with a number of prominent performers. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Charles Dance and Sebastian Koch have joined the cast, although important details surrounding their respective roles have largely been kept confidential.

The production pause is the latest development in a project that has already experienced a lengthy journey toward the big screen. “The Batman Part II” has gone through several changes to its timetable since the original movie was released in 2022.

The follow-up was initially planned for an earlier theatrical release before being repeatedly delayed. Its release date was eventually moved to October 2027 and later shifted again to February 18, 2028.

At present, Warner Bros. and DC Studios have not announced another change to the February 2028 release date. It is also not yet known whether the latest interruption will have an impact on the remaining filming schedule or post-production timetable.

“The Batman Part II” is expected to continue the Gotham City story established by Reeves in the first movie. The filmmaker’s version of the Batman universe has also expanded through “The Penguin,” an HBO series centered on Farrell’s character following the events of the 2022 film.

Despite the latest setback, there has been no indication that Reeves is permanently leaving the production. The studio has not announced a replacement director, and the project remains under his creative leadership.

The filmmakers have continued to keep the sequel’s plot details largely secret. While elements of the story remain unknown, the movie is expected to build on the characters and events introduced in the first installment while taking the story of Pattinson’s Batman into a new chapter.

The temporary halt therefore does not currently represent a permanent change to the project. Instead, production is expected to resume once Reeves is able to return.

For audiences waiting for the next chapter of Reeves’ Batman saga, the main question will now be how quickly filming can restart and whether the interruption creates any further scheduling complications.

For the moment, the February 18, 2028 theatrical release remains the planned date. Further information from Warner Bros. or DC Studios is expected to clarify when production will resume and whether the pause will affect the film’s eventual arrival in theaters.

Former Ohio pastor and former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted in the death of his wife, Ashley Flynn.

Flynn, 40, was sentenced Monday, October 5, in Miami County, Ohio, following a jury’s guilty verdict on charges including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. The aggravated murder conviction resulted in a life sentence without parole, bringing the criminal proceedings to a major conclusion.

The case followed the February shooting death of Ashley Flynn, a 37-year-old teacher and volleyball coach. Prosecutors said Ashley was killed inside the couple’s home in Tipp City while their two young daughters were present.

Authorities said Flynn initially claimed that an unknown intruder had entered the residence and shot his wife. Investigators later disputed that account, saying evidence collected during the investigation did not support the existence of a home invader.

Prosecutors argued that Flynn attempted to create a false impression that an outside attacker was responsible for Ashley’s death. Evidence presented during the trial included forensic findings, digital information and material recovered from electronic devices. Prosecutors maintained that those findings contradicted portions of Flynn’s original account.

The relationship between Flynn and another woman, Alleigha Botner, also became a central part of the prosecution’s case. Botner had previously been associated with Flynn’s church, and prosecutors described the two as having been involved in an affair.

During the proceedings, prosecutors introduced communications between Flynn and Botner and argued that the relationship provided a possible motive for the killing. Botner also testified about her interactions with Flynn and conversations involving Ashley.

The prosecution further highlighted messages sent by Flynn around the time of the killing. Prosecutors said those communications were significant to their argument that the shooting had been planned rather than carried out by an unknown intruder.

Flynn’s defense challenged the prosecution’s interpretation of the evidence. His attorneys questioned aspects of the digital evidence and pointed to the fact that the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was never recovered. Flynn himself did not take the witness stand during the trial.

The case received additional attention because of Flynn’s previous public profile. In 2013, he appeared on “American Idol” as a singer and spoke about his musical ambitions. Although he did not progress to the Hollywood stage of the competition, the television appearance later became part of the public interest surrounding his case.

Before his arrest, Flynn had also served as a music pastor in Ohio. His background in ministry and his brief appearance on national television contrasted sharply with the allegations and subsequent criminal proceedings.

At Monday’s sentencing hearing, Flynn became emotional while speaking about his family and his two daughters. He expressed remorse for the pain caused by the events and acknowledged that he had failed to keep the commitments he made in his marriage. Despite the jury’s verdict, however, Flynn continued to deny that he killed Ashley.

The sentencing hearing also gave Ashley’s relatives an opportunity to address the court and describe the impact of her death. Her family has been left to cope with the loss of a mother, teacher and coach, while her two daughters face life without her.

The judge ultimately imposed a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Flynn is now expected to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The case may not yet be completely over. Flynn’s legal team has indicated that it plans to challenge the conviction through the appeals process. Any appeal could bring further legal proceedings in the months ahead.

For now, the life sentence represents the conclusion of the trial phase of a case that drew widespread attention because of Flynn’s former religious position, his television appearance and the circumstances surrounding Ashley Flynn’s death.
